Purpose of Position:
Become a member of the WSI Europe Forecast Team responsible for providing weather information and decision support services to leading aviation, media and energy companies in Europe and the Middle East..
Your forecasting expertise and knowledge of weather-sensitive commercial applications will help maintain the high standards for product timeliness, accuracy and quality our customers expect.
The Forecaster will dedicate his/ her resource to providing daily forecasts in the short and medium term forecast periods, using advanced weather detection and forecast technologies.
Responsibilities:
- Provide weather forecasts to tight deadlines utilising advanced forecasting modelling and workstation technology
- Provide input by translating the main weather features into weather programme content for media companies.
- Generate forecast discussions and weather alerts as weather conditions dictate
- Actively participate in daily Forecast Centre weather briefings. Engage in and add value to forecast discussions involving global and synoptic scale trends, model bias and expected developments in weather patterns in the short and medium term forecast periods.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Meteorology or related curriculum
- Experienced in an Operational Forecasting environment.
- Solid understanding of theoretical and practical meteorology
- Demonstrable proficiency in forecast process within an operational forecasting environment
- Demonstrable proficiency in utilising advanced workstation technology and methods to derive short fused forecasts in an operational environment
- Ability to deliver operational forecast content consistently and accurately within rigid time constraint
- Demonstrable and exceptional telephone, verbal and interpersonal communications skills
- Demonstrable and exceptional organisational, data analysis, data collation and process management skills
- Ability to effectively multitask and adjust priorities based on changing weather conditions in a fast-paced operational environment
- Ability to effectively communicate and interact in an operational team environment
